Spanair Plane Crashes in Madrid, Killing 149
A plane crashed today at Madrid’s Barajas Airport, killing 149 people on board. The flight was headed for the vacation hotspot of the Canary Islands, but the plane went down as it was trying to take off. Officials have said there are only 26 survivors of the devastating crash.
The aircraft, a Spanair plane, went off the end of the runway without getting more than a little airborne, according to eyewitness reports, although the cause of the crash is not yet known. The flight had been delayed for more than an hour due to “technical problems,” but those have not yet been released.
One police officer said that “the bodies were so hot that police could barely touch them.”
