Free Things to Do in Costa del Sol
Costa del Sol: stretches of beautiful Spanish beaches and patches of charming beachtowns along Spain’s Mediterranean coastline. Despite the high prices and touristy vibes, there are still many free things to do in Costa del Sol if you look hard enough. They might not be as many as you’d expect to find in large cities, but there is definitely no shortage of free activities to do and things to see.
Donkey Sanctuary
Situated 40 minutes from Malaga, the Donkey Sanctuary is also known as El Rufigo del Burrito. Just a short drive away from the city, the donkey sanctuary is a great place for families to mingle with animals. Admission is free of charge both to the sanctuary and the close by flamingo lake. Spend the time exploring the beautiful Spanish landscape while admiring the wildlife.
Mijas Diamond and Jewelry Center
Take a trip to Mijas and along with exploring the charming village, make sure to tour , for free, the Jewelry and Diamond Center. This might not be suitable for independent travelers but if you are looking for some well-crafted jewelry or souvenir, then this is the place for you.
Paloma Park
Situated in the center of Benalmadena, a mere two minutes’ stroll from the Sunset Beach Cub, the Paloma Park provides a calming outing for the entire family, packed with restaurants and picnic quarters. At the center of the park, you could find a lake. You might run into some ‘wildlife’ as well (i’m talking about rabbits and chicken here).
Casares
It is considered to be one of the most picturesque villages in Andalusia. Most of its white villages are attractive. However there is something truly special about the view of Casares that leads visitors to stop their cars and have a glance or take a picture. Wandering through the white terraced lanes all the way through the castle, you will be charmed by the city.
Gibraltar
Just a 25-minute drive away from Costa del Sol, Gibraltar is ready to welcome you. As one of the most interesting places to visit in Spain – especiall with its UK influence – there are a myriad of activities you can do here. From museums to cultural sites and charming streets, Gibraltar is a picturesque city worth spending some time in. Take pleasure of the majestic views of St. Michaels Cave as well as the Great Siege Tunnel. But, in general, the town is not cheap (so try to look for tucked away places to eat).
Puerto de la Dequesa
Indeed, Puerto de la Duquesa is the best kept secret of Costa del Sol. Though it is just within effortless reach from both Gibraltar (30mins.) and Malaga (40mins.), Puerto de la Dequesa looks like 1,000 miles away from the horde of the getaway resorts and gives a supreme quality of living in the Southern part of Spain.
