Barcelona – a must see during your vacation in Spain

Barcelona is one of the most popular vacation destinations in Spain. And with a lot of low-cost carriers serving this lovely city, it can be quite cheap to spend a vacation here. Barcelona is also a perfect base for visiting the rest of the country. For example, you can plan to several days in Mallorca as getting from Barcelona to Mallorca is quite cheap.

Getting to Barcelona

The majority of travelers fly directly into the city, as airfare to Barcelona is really affordable, especially if you know where to look for the deals. For example, right now (note: when the article was written) you can fly RT for only $460 from Atlanta to Barcelona (the price does not include the taxes and fees).
Alternatively, you can fly into Madrid and then get from Madrid to Barcelona by train, plane or bus. You can even rent a car and plan to visit several Spanish cities.

Where to stay in Barcelona

Choosing the place to stay really depends on your budget. There are a lot of cheap hotels in Barcelona to choose from, although you probably would want to stay away from those located near La Rambla.
Hostels are also incredible choices and Backpackers BCN is a place you should consider. The hostel is located close to the city center, but also providing enough peace and quiet for those who need to rest during the night. Plus, if you do like the prices of a hostel but are not fond of dorms, Backpackers BCN also offers double rooms. You can also use the internet for free and do the laundry when needed.

Sightseeing and fun

You can start your exploration with a walk on La Rambla . This pedestrian-only street is lined up with cafes and shops, so you really don’t have time to get bored (but be careful how much money you plan to spend!). You probably won’t expect to find any Barcelona hostels in this area, but, we can assure you, they exist. It might not be the perfect location if you actually want to get some sleep though.
Visiting Sagrada Familia is a must although you might be fascinated only by the exterior. The interior is not as stunning as you might expect, however, an elevator ride to the roof might be worth the money (€2.50).
A visit in Barcelona is not complete without checking out La Boqueria, the famous market. You can buy a lot of treats and then head to one of the parks for a romantic picnic.
Or you can enjoy one of the lovely beaches. Of course, these are very crowded during the summer but you can always escape to one of the islands.
